Employer Nomination Scheme 186
The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) allows willing Australian employers to sponsor suitably skilled foreign workers to live and work permanently in Australia. This visa must be applied for and received within six months of the nomination date. The applicant can be in or out of Australia when submitting this application; however, applicants from Australia must have a substantive or bridging visa A, B, or C. You will be given Permanent Residence until this approval is granted.
The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) is divided into three (3) categories:
- Direct Entry Stream
- Stream of Temporary Residence Transition (TRT)
- Labor Agreement stream
The Stream for Direct Entry
Applicants in the DE stream must have an MLTSSL-listed occupation and a positive skill assessment in that occupation before applying. A minimum of three years of professional work experience is required. In order to be considered for the DE stream, Applicants must be under the age of 45.
ELIGIBILITY
- be under the age of 50 years old
- providing a successful skill assessment for the profession you’ve chosen from the specific assessing authority (unless exempted)
- have maintained a highly relevant position for at least three (3) years
- If it is required in the state or territory where you intend to work, you must be licensed, registered, or a member of a professional body.
- To be eligible for this visa stream, you must speak English fluently.
- Fulfill the required health and character requirements.
Temporary Residence Transition stream
This visa enables skilled workers to live and work indefinitely in Australia after being nominated by their employer. Applicants who held a Temporary Work (Skilled) visa Subclass 457 with the nominating employer may apply for Permanent Residence via the Temporary Residence Transition stream.

- Have held a Subclass 457 visa for at least two (2) years prior to application to work in the nominated (or closely related) position with the nominating employer.

Labour Agreement stream
The Labor Agreement stream is for candidates who have been nominated by an employer who has entered into a Labour Agreement with the Australian Government that has been signed and decided upon. This visa allows skilled workers who have been nominated by their employer to live and work permanently in Australia.

ELIGIBILITY
- You must currently work with, or intend to work with, the employer under a labor agreement.
- For this job, you must have suitable English language skills, experience, skills, and other credentials. The labor agreement will guide.
- You must be under 45 years old when you apply unless the labor agreement specifies otherwise.
- If you’re in Australia, you’ll need to get a valid 457 or TSS visa issued under a labor agreement.
