The (SOL) Skilled Occupation List basically enlists all the occupations that the Australian economy faces shortage in and are high on demand for that matter. With this list, the Australian Government aims to overcome the shortages of occupations by inviting eligible skilled workers from all over the world to migrate to Australia, work there and contribute towards the betterment of Australian Economy. The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is applicable on any of the following visa subclasses:
Skilled Independent Visa 189
Temporary Graduate Visa 485
Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa 489
Through this list, potential migrants get an idea of the occupations that are high on demand in Australia in the coming years by checking whether their occupation is open and can apply for Australian immigration accordingly.
Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List:
The Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL) enlists all those occupations that can be sponsored for Australian Immigration. Skilled workers whose occupations are under the CSOL list are eligible to be nominated by a State or Territory or be sponsored by an employer for which one should apply for a sponsored visa.
Changes Made in the Occupations List:
The Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency obtains stats from various government bodies, associations and unions regarding the availability of jobs and skilled workers in Australia one the basis of which it analyses the demand and supply of the same to determine the occupations that are on demand and cannot be filled by Australians themselves. Through the results of the analysis its revises the occupations enlisted in CSOL and SOL lists yearly and releases an updated version on 1st July each year so as to stay responsive to the Australian labor market.
The major changes made in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) in 2016 were the removal of the following occupations:
Mining Engineer
OH & S Advisor
Dental Technician
Dental Prosthetist
Dental Therapist
Dental Hygienist
Whereas, on the other hand, the following occupations were added to the list:
Audiologist
Orthotist
Prosthetist
The Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List 2016 removed the following occupations:
Panel Beater
Metal Fabricator
Motor Mechanic (General)
Diesel Mechanic
Small Engine Mechanic
Welder (First Class)
